Plagianthus regius, known as lowland ribbonwood, is a graceful semi deciduous tree native to New Zealand. Growing up to 15m, its slender, cascading branches bear soft jagged pointed leaves, creating a delicate, feathery appearance. In spring, it produces clusters of small yellow flowers and small green fruit that fall as a unit. Coastal to lower montane. Often a prominent tree in lowland alluvial forest. A very fast growing tree which is an excellent specimen tree for a large garden or park. Does well in moist situations but prefers a fertile, moist but free draining soil. Adaptable and ornamental, it adds elegance to native landscapes. Low flammability species, suitable for green breaks and defensible spaces.
