Pseudowintera colorata, known as horopito or pepper tree, is a native New Zealand shrub esteemed for its unique foliage and cultural significance. Its glossy, pepper-scented leaves feature striking red blotches, with glaucous to white undersides, growing to 3.5m tall. It is found in coastal, lowland, or montane forest margins and shrubland. Used traditionally in Māori medicine, it holds medicinal properties.
