Pittosporum eugenoides

Plant Info

Pittosporum eugenoides, commonly known as lemonwood or tarata, is a hardy evergreen tree native to New Zealand. Reaching up to 12 meters in height, it boasts a dense, rounded crown with glossy, yellow-green leaves that emit a lemony scent when crushed. The leaves are oval-shaped with wavy margins and are arranged in a distinctive whorled pattern. In spring, it produces small, fragrant, creamy-yellow flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. Prefers a sunny to part shade position and thrives in soil with good drainage. A great plant for establishing a quick canopy in a restoration project. Lemonwood is also valued for its timber and traditional medicinal uses. Low to moderate flammability species.
